House
Activities
The Houses provide leadership opportunities for students. Two senior students are elected as House Captains each year. The House Captains are supported by House Liaison teachers who act as mentors to support student leaders and assist in the development of leadership skills. House Captains are involved in organising teams and umpires for sporting events as well as organising House meetings and assemblies. High participation rates indicate the support and enjoyment students gain by being involved in House activities.
The awarding of House colours to individual students occurs at the final school assembly and House colours are proudly worn on blazer pockets. House activities are an integral part of the life of the College and the winning of House points through the year culminates in the awarding of the House Trophy at the final College assembly. House activities are essentially student driven and include a wide range of sports, chorals, debating, dance and drama.
Choral Festival
First term traditionally ends with House Chorals. Evening performances are a sell out each year. Each House selects a soloist (voice and instrumental) and auditions members for their small group performances.
Membership of the big group is open to any House member. The House Captains co-ordinate all phases of preparation for the performances and adjudication with support from the College Arts Captain.
House Debating
Second term ends with the Senior Debate. The Junior and Intermediate finals are held in the last weeks of Term 2. Students represent their House in a number of heats culminating in the final debate for each section.
The debates are adjudicated by a member of the Victorian Debating Association. The House Captains co-ordinate all aspects of the competition with support from the College Arts Captain.
House Dance Drama
Third term ends with House Dance Drama which involves the development of a performance around a given theme. Evening performances are a sell out each year.
The Senior Arts House Captains and their House teams encourage girls from all year levels to participate in one of the following roles: cast member, script writer, choreographer, costume designer, backdrops, make up or sound or lighting. These activities provide opportunities for students to learn about theatre and theatrical production.
