Canterbury Girls’ Secondary College introduced a Select Entry Accelerated Learning (SEAL) Program in 2016.
The Accelerated program is designed to cater for the needs of very able students. It differs from the mainstream program by providing a faster paced curriculum with the opportunity to work on more abstract, complex and in depth material. Learning in core subjects will be accelerated for these students and it is anticipated that most students will complete Years 7-10 in three years, giving them an extended range of options for their final years of schooling. Students may choose to take additional VCE units to provide breadth or undertake VCE Extension studies which will allow them to complete one or more university subjects as part of their VCE.
Up to 25 places will be offered in 2018 for Year 7 students who meet the criteria. Students wishing to apply for entry to the program will be required to sit a formal test (provided by Edutest) on 4 March 2017 from 9.00am to 12noon. Selected students will attend an interview before the final students are selected for the program. The test includes verbal reasoning, reading comprehension, mathematics and written expression. Students who gain suitable scores across a range of skill areas will be interviewed. Information from a student’s primary school may also be sought.
Applications are now open for entry into Canterbury Girls’ Secondary College SEAL Program at Year 7 in 2018. Please note that applications close on Friday 24 February 2017 and Edutest results will not be made available to parents.
